We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant General Manager to support the day-to-day operation of our beautiful historic country house. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone passionate about hospitality, guest experience, and team development.
Working closely with the General Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring exceptional service standards, smooth operations, and a positive working environment across all departments.
The Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the General Manager in the overall management of the property
- Leading by example to deliver outstanding guest service at all times
- Assisting with the management of food and beverage operations, events, and accommodation
- Supervising, motivating, and developing the team to achieve high performance
- Ensuring company standards, policies, and procedures are consistently followed
- Assisting with staff training, scheduling, and performance management
- Managing customer feedback and resolving issues professionally
- Supporting stock control, cash handling, and cost management
- Ensuring health & safety, licensing, and compliance requirements are met
- Acting as Manager on Duty when required
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a supervisory or management role within hospitality
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach
- Passion for delivering high standards and memorable guest experiences
- Flexibility to work across shifts, including weekends and evenings

The Role
As a General Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our food and beverage operations. You will deliver exceptional service to our guests while supporting multiple areas of the business.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing a warm, professional, and attentive service to all guests
- Delivering the hotel’s concept and ethos to the high standards expected at Thackray House
- Supporting the operation of the bistro, lounge, bars, and function rooms during service
- Assisting with restaurant setup and breakdown
- Carrying out cleaning and preparation duties in both front and back of house areas
- Handling cash responsibly and maintaining stock security
- Learning our food and beverage offerings in detail and confidently promoting them to guests
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and assisting other departments when required
- Leading by example and helping motivate the team to deliver outstanding customer service

We are seeking a reliable and responsible Night Porter to join our team at a beautiful historic country house. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, calm, and welcoming environment during overnight hours.
The Role
As Night Porter, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the property overnight, ensuring guest comfort, security, and cleanliness while supporting the transition between evening and morning operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the main point of contact for guests during night hours
- Ensuring the safety and security of the building, guests, and staff
- Carrying out regular security checks and patrols
- Setting up public areas, function rooms, and dining spaces for the following day
- Light cleaning and housekeeping duties in public and back-of-house areas
- Assisting with late check-ins and early departures
- Handling guest requests professionally and efficiently
- Supporting other departments when required
What We’re Looking For
- A dependable and self-motivated individual
- Calm and professional manner, especially when working independently
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Previous hospitality or security experience is beneficial but not essential
