Built in 1625 as the hunting lodge of the Duke of Perthshire, Thackray House Hotel (formerly Roman Camp) is a rare and beautifully preserved example of a Scottish stately home. This iconic property features intricately carved woodwork, crown moldings, and antiques from the seventeenth century, all intact and carefully maintained. Stepping inside is like stepping into a bygone era, where history is brought to life with every detail.
Over the centuries, the estate has passed through the hands of viscounts, political figures, celebrated artists, and even royal visitors. Among its most famous guests was director Cecil B. DeMille, along with a host of notable figures from the world of film and politics.
In the 1960s, the property gained international fame when The Beatles stayed here during their Scotland tour in 1963 and 1964. To honor this legacy, the new Thackray House Hotel will offer guest rooms inspired by the band’s visit, including the John Lennon Room and the Paul McCartney Suite, capturing the essence of the era and their time spent at the estate.
Reservations are now open for our grand reopening. Be part of history and immerse yourself in the grandeur of this Scottish gem.
