Wedding Open Evening
Join us for a relaxed and informal Wedding Open Evening, offering the perfect opportunity to explore Thackray House, meet our team and imagine your celebration within this beautiful historic setting.
The Drummond Suite will have a sample table set up, allowing you to see the space brought to life and discover how it could look for your own special day. On arrival, enjoy a welcome drink and canapés before taking a tour of the House and its romantic riverside grounds with a member of our team.
Our wedding team will be available throughout the evening to answer questions, discuss ideas and talk you through everything from intimate celebrations to exclusive-use weddings.

In 1724, a fishwife named Maggie Dickson was hanged in Edinburgh, and walked home afterwards. Her story is the heart of The Mourning Necklace, the latest novel from Scottish crime writer Kate Foster. And it is the starting point for one of the most distinctive evenings Thackray House has ever hosted.
What to expect:
Join us for a dinner inspired by the women history tried to silence, and the writer who refused to let them stay quiet.
The evening begins with a gin cocktail in the bar, a nod to the tavern world Maggie Dickson navigated. Dinner follows: a menu drawn from 18th-century Scottish life, reimagined through Thackray House kitchen. Kate moves between tables throughout the evening, in conversation with guests rather than performing to a room. The night ends with a short, intimate Q&A: Kate on the book, on Maggie, on why the women history forgot still matter so much.
For guests staying overnight, a comfortable bedroom and a leisurely breakfast complete the experience, with time to settle into the cosy library and enjoy another chapter. Each guest leaves with a curated reading list, a signed bookplate and a book.

Get ready for an evening of espionage, intrigue and plenty of laughs at an interactive dinner event – Live & Let Spy: A ‘Bond’ Movie Tribute.
International moviemaker Lord Leg Over is searching for the next Uber Super Spy star: 008 Kinky Nights. Expect secret missions, suspicious characters and plenty of twists as the action unfolds around you. Prepare to be shaken, not stirred – have you got what it takes to crack the case?
Your mission begins with a sparkling glass of fizz on arrival before taking your seat in the elegant Drummond Ballroom. Enjoy a delicious three-course dinner accompanied by half a bottle of wine per person, while our Walking Theatre performers bring the world of spies, secrets and deception to life.
Follow the clues, question the suspects and put your detective skills to the test as you become part of the story. Gather your fellow agents for a wonderfully entertaining evening of mystery, comedy, delicious food and Bond-inspired glamour.
Dressing to impress is warmly encouraged – think black tie, glamorous gowns, secret agents and movie villains. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to enjoy an unforgettable night at Thackray House.

Winter doesn’t have to be something you endure.
This November, Thackray House invites you to spend a night in the Scottish Highlands with Suzy Reading, chartered psychologist, yoga teacher and author of Self-Care for Winter, for an immersive one-night residency designed to help you find nourishment, movement and joy in the coldest months of the year.
Rooted in Suzy’s seven-step framework and set against the extraordinary backdrop of winter, the residency moves from workshop to walk to table and leaves you rested, reset and genuinely equipped for the season ahead.

An afternoon workshop with Suzy exploring why winter depletes us, and the science-backed steps that help us thrive.
